Hartshill

One of the first Meetings and the meeting house nearest to Fenny Drayton. See the two Hartshill related leaflets.

This is the nearest meeting to Fenny Drayton.

The old meeting house is now a private house called meeting house cottage on the green just below the present meeting house.

There was a school founded by Nathaniel Newton. This was demolished and the meeting house the preset meeting house built in 1972. There is a local school bearing his name further up the hill.

Hartshill has the usual ‘quiet’ meeting for worship but is also fairly unusual in that it holds an evening programmed meeting. This was established many years ago when Quaker Home Service appointed Missioners to travel and bring Quakerism to the ordinary people. There are not very many of these programmed meetings remaining.

More details see www.centralenglandquakers.org.uk

There are also two small trusts providing educational and ‘relief in need’ to local inhabitants.
